This project is part of a book I filled with experiments of digital vs non-digital designs.
Inspiration:
Through my experimental book Commemoration, I have been looking at lots of geometrical patterns and found a lot of inspiration through this work.
Process:
1. I wanted to create a digital and a lino version of a design piece and place them next to each other to see the difference. I decided to keep them both in black and white to compliment each other.
2. I started by using the shape of a hexagon and create a cube. Form their I created a patter and then worked systematically to form a digital sentence We are Digital.
3. For the lino I started with sketching a lot of different types of combinations, realizing later that they were all to thin to use and I had to use a fatter type. We are handmade, lino was created from an ornamental font. Using the basic shape I traced the letter forms and from there added the basic details of swirls and leaves.
4. Hours later the result can be seen on the following pages. The lino was printed on paper and pasted into the book, to keep the hand made effect.
Discoveries:
This very time demanding experiment was a joy to create. You can clearly see the difference between the two. I am just wondering if I should have created the same image for both pieces, as now it looks a little disconnected. For me the experiment was a success.
