This project is part of a book I filled with experiments of digital vs non-digital designs.
Inspiration:
Pixels are the basic measurement of the screen. Following an old resurfacing design of pixel art I created a pixel poster with overlapping of hand drawn type. Inspired by the famous sentence which uses all the letters of the alphabet: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. I used blind drawing making my drawn letters experimental without influence from my own prejudice.
Process
1. Firstly I printed an A4 sheet with the sentence in black. For a couple of min- utes I focused on the letters trying to remember them. I then blindly without even looking at the paper drew with black marker the image that I had remembered. I later stared at the A4 printed sentence and drew from there without looking at the paper again. This gave me very different versions but also a lot of similarities. I loved the fact that the letters are still legible even though they were drawn blindly.
2. I then focused on pixelising the sentence in Photoshop trying out different colours eventually liking the effect of yellow best.
3. Scanning in the drawn letters I overlapped them over the pixel work to cre- ate a very odd but funky looking design to contrast the two extremes.
4. Moving the pixel words to fit with the hand drawn letters worked better to create more of a harmony. Resulting in the end ‘poster’.
Discoveries
Using the blind method of drawing leaves the result a raw product of unpredictability. I enjoy working with this method to free up my mind and let go of rules or things that might be blocking my inspiration. I can always find little bits which can later be used for another project or spawn a new trail of ideas.
