This project is part of a book I filled with experiments to commemorate botanical geometry.
Process:
1.Walking home from class I passed many flower patches in the city. These are not meant to picked but looking at them can an idea inspired from many different designers who are making fonts from organic things such as flowers branches or leaves. While picking the flowers I kept finding different textures and I slowly had a bag filled with different forms and colours.
2. Upon coming inside I placed all the found stems, flowers and, leaves on a large piece of paper and started to mix and match placing the flowers next to each other to create forms which resembled letters. Upon looking at them I wanted to photograph them but then seen realized that the lighting in the room was terrible and I would not be able to move the pieces long distance, or wait long to use them as they were already starting to wilt.
3. Stuck thinking how I would be able to solve this problem, my house-mate knocked softly on my door and asked if it was possible to use my scanner. Of course and of she went scanning her things. While I sat their waiting till she was done it hit me ‘scanning’. I gathered my pieces and scanned them in leaving the lid open to create a black background. Adjusted the saturation of the colours in Photoshop and played with the arrangement.
4. I gathered my pieces and scanned them in leaving the lid open not to crush the flowers which gave a surprising effect. The background turned black and the colours of the flower changed slightly as the light passed through the flow- ers. After scanning I adjusted the saturation of the colours in Photoshop and played with the arrangement.
Discoveries
After all this it resulted in playing with the letters and rescanning them to get the precise angle needed for a letter or form. The end result was legible and very organic looking, having most flowers/branches kept in their own form and not edited with Photoshop.
I was very surprised with this experiment, it was a true discovery. Not knowing how the end product would look or even what the next step would be. I would like to create more pieces in this style. To create a full A2 poster in this style would really amaze me, with the right flowers and botanical pieces.

Hi thanks for sharing some of your work and process and thoughts.
Ive been looking for botanical photography similar to mine, and am still searching.
Your scanning is close to what i do.
If u interested i can share a link to my Google photos album.
Cheers
