This project was given to me in my graphic design/concept thinking class.
Objective: Choose a movie of your liking and re create a movie poster and a title sequence. For those who don’t know what a title sequence is, it is the beginning of a movie where you get a quick view of what the movie is about and the actors of the movie are named.
I started out by picking one of my favorite movies, Alice in Wonderland. I decided to go with the new version by Tim Burton. As the movie revolves around the “Oraculum” , the scroll that tells what will happen in wonderland, I chose to create my style around the old ragged look of a scroll. Wanting to lineart all the individual characters by hand and adding a self drawn background was my first major obstacle due to massive time dilemma I was forced to take the quick road and use photoshop to make life simpler. With each character I created multiple layers and water color effects to add color and depth. I used these layers as a kind of stop motion film layering them after each other to produce the title sequence.
With the poster I used the already made character drawings from photoshop to fill the poster with a harmonious balance between characters and storyline. We also had to create our own new title for the movie. Again due to time, I had to use an already pre made font, and tweak this to get to the look I thought was right.
I am very pleased how this project turned out, creating a stop motion graphic and the sketch style theme.
